“Perfume is the soul, the soul is the perfume. »
In the Arabian Nights there is this wonderful expression to address the loved one and say "Soul of my Soul" to better convey to them the gap that would be to live without their love.
I remember Aladin's warm voice - crackling on a 45 rpm at the bottom of a record player in 1977 - and addressing his princess Badroulboudour, Aladin said to her "my princess, soul of my soul". I was 7 years old at the time and I asked my mother the meaning of the soul and her answer was that of perfume: "There is not a single definition, it is an invisible presence which connects us to the divine a bit like the trail of that Jicky perfume that you like to smell to pursue and continue something that you miss. The soul travels infinitely in space and time and mixes us into the whole, it is the fragment of the beautiful and perfect that we have in each of us and that we hand over to heaven and earth when we disappear. Perfume continues the presence, the soul proceeds in the same way."
I learned a few years later through sustained reading of the Thousand and One Nights the art of loving women among themselves which we call sapphism, the eunuchs protruding in the gynaeciums, the conquering sodomites, the disturbing ephebes and that the relationship with the body is nothing without the relationship with the soul and I understood that sexual exercise constituted an excellent substitute for the soul and that tormenting each other was an innovative resolution to instill in the spirit from each one a drop of the white and cosmic soul which flowed in the primordial ocean before the invention of the world...
We have designed here a perfume which speaks of the Fire-God of Persia and the gods of India, of the cult of offerings and of Mesopotamia, of milk and clarified butter to honor the gods and to be remembered by a roaring trail in the air the foaming whiteness of the soul which proceeds from everything. Here the perfume is soul, the soul is the perfume.
